Our Kentucky division, located in Mount Sterling seeks a Tooling Engineer.

Job Description:

Summary
 
To provide organizational/administrative/engineering support to the tool room. Liaison with the Precision Resource Tech Center for new tool design and run off. Continuously improving existing tooling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Liaison with the Precision Resource Tech Center for new tool design and run off.
  • Responsible for developing tooling changes and/or improvements and follow-up to ensure documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Ensure electronic tool room records are accurately maintained.
  • Gather and review tool performance data.
  • Prioritize and develop continuous improvement strategies based upon above analysis of actual vs. predicted throughput performance.
  • Support other team members in tool improvements and technical problems.
  • Support a metallurgy focus to tooling solutions (coatings, material selection)
  • Support other departments with needed machining, gages, knowledge for better production performance.
  • Assist in testing, prototyping and improving of ideas to ensure purchased components meet specifications.
  • Review corrective action “root causes”, approve action plan and validate effectiveness.
  • Key member of APQP and FMEA team
  • Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field.
  • Participate in safety and OSHA training.
  • Confers with workers in other departments, such as marketing, legal, and engineering, to provide technical information.
  • Handles all special projects assigned by management.
  • Write monthly report to Fineblank Engineering Manager summarizing prioritized goals for the coming month and progress against stated goals for the month ended, within five working days of month end.
  • Keep work area clean and tidy at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or offsetting experience in a metal working environment.
  • A minimum of five years experience in a tool design / making environment, with responsibility for tool / mold design and development.
  • Proficiency in Solid Works design software
  • Knowledge of standard and metric measurement system
  • Capability of visualizing in three dimensions.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen. The employee frequently is working on the shop floor, standing for sixty minutes plus at a time, and will occasionally lift up to forty pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires both a shop floor presence with flexibility in movement and sitting in an office environment.  Regular use of tools and office equipment require some degree of coordination and speed.  Operations are not constant.  Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times while the employee is in the manufacturing plant. Some travel involved but few long periods away from home.

Summary

Overall responsibility of leading the transition from new product development to manufacturing, providing daily manufacturing support for existing products and for developing, implementing and improving processes. This position drives continuous improvement through operational efficiencies and innovative engineering solutions.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Plans, designs, and coordinates integration of machinery and equipment into manufacturing process of industrial establishment, applying knowledge of engineering.
  • Develops and writes equipment specifications, performance requirements, cost analysis, and proposal for integrating machining and equipment.
  • Oversees installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
  • Determines parts supply, maintenance tasks, safety procedures, and service schedule required to maintain machines and equipment in prescribed condition. 
  • Recommends improvements in method, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.
  • Develops models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of system components and recommends implementation of improved procedures. 
  • Optimize manufacturing processes to provide sustainable gains in cost effectiveness and product performance through capital projects, statistical analysis, designed experiments, and procedural changes. 
  • Assist team leaders and team members in evaluating and implementing continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications, Education, Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience with machining and/or tool making.
  • Five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the metal working industry.
  • Experience working with SolidWorks or AutoCad.
